I can't recommend [Rogue](https://itsguestgaming.com/marvel-snap/cards/rogue) Scion of Division at five cost. The card is one I want to be good, and I found places where its effect felt useful, but I kept coming back to the same problem: this is a turn-four effect asking me to spend turn five on it.

Stealing the text of the highest-cost card in the opponent's hand sounds like a way to interrupt their big finish. My concern is when that interruption arrives. If the important setup happens on turn five, Rogue needs to get ahead of it. Playing her as my normal turn-five play doesn't solve that problem.

I tried ramp, a deck built around Antipolar Magneto, a more ambitious hybrid, and a [Misery](https://itsguestgaming.com/marvel-snap/cards/misery) experiment. Those attempts left me interested in specific uses for the effect, but they didn't give me a convincing reason to recommend the card as it stands.

## Rogue needs to interrupt the setup before turn five

My criticism starts with the timing of the tech effect. The three-cost Rogue targets an ongoing card. This five-cost version is trying to take away the opponent's big winner before they play it, but I don't think that describes enough of how the game is being played right now.

Rogue Scion of Division needs to land on turn four for me, interrupting a five-cost play or a six-cost play the opponent is ramping into turn five. Getting ahead of that setup is where I think the card could be much better. That's why I compared the idea to the [Leech](https://itsguestgaming.com/marvel-snap/cards/leech) mindset while saying I thought Rogue would be a much better turn-four card.

I'd like to see her at 4-3. If she stays at five cost, I said I'd want at least seven power, but my preference is to lose power in exchange for losing a cost. Adding power doesn't address my main objection as directly as letting the effect happen a turn earlier.

If I'm going to play her anyway, the first question is how to get her onto the board on turn four or put her there without making her my normal turn-five play. That question shaped every deck I tried.

## Ramp felt best when it got Rogue out early

Ramp was probably where the card felt best to me. I could play Rogue on turn four, let the effect happen, then use [Blink](https://itsguestgaming.com/marvel-snap/cards/blink) to replace her with a bigger card. I could also use the early Rogue play as a backup plan before taking my other turns.

The restriction I ran into was [Electro](https://itsguestgaming.com/marvel-snap/cards/electro). I had cut [War Machine](https://itsguestgaming.com/marvel-snap/cards/war-machine) and thought I could accept Electro's one-card-per-turn restriction because I had other ways to get my larger card onto the board. In practice, I needed another route. The deck didn't quite have it.

That left me wanting to take Electro out and try another energy card. I hadn't settled the replacement. I wouldn't turn this into a finished ramp recommendation when the version I played still needed that change.

The encouraging part was the early timing. When I could get Rogue onto the board on turn four, I could feel the purpose of the effect. When I had to treat her as the turn-five play, I was back at the same cost problem.

## Antipolar Magneto gave Rogue a more specific job

My next variation treated Antipolar Magneto as the game plan. Rogue was a card I wanted to get onto the board through that plan, rather than a card I wanted to spend five energy playing by herself. [Jubilee](https://itsguestgaming.com/marvel-snap/cards/jubilee) was another way I could put her there.

This version was close to being good, but I thought it needed small power adjustments and a change to one slot. I wanted another four-cost card in that slot and mentioned [Crossbones](https://itsguestgaming.com/marvel-snap/cards/crossbones) as a possibility. That was a tentative option, not a settled replacement.

I see Rogue's value in this kind of deck as dependent on the meta. A meta built around a big turn-six card is where I think she fits best. I named [Aurora](https://itsguestgaming.com/marvel-snap/cards/aurora) as an example of that sort of finish. That condition is part of the recommendation; I wouldn't call her the answer to every matchup.

[Baron Zemo](https://itsguestgaming.com/marvel-snap/cards/baron-zemo) was the surprise MVP of this experiment. I was getting value from him against the number of people playing [Domino](https://itsguestgaming.com/marvel-snap/cards/domino) and [Quicksilver](https://itsguestgaming.com/marvel-snap/cards/quicksilver). He deserves another look as a tech card. I wasn't recommending a move into Mill.

## The extra turn-four route didn't justify its slot

I also tried combining ideas from the [Superior Iron Man](https://itsguestgaming.com/marvel-snap/cards/superior-iron-man) and [Thanos](https://itsguestgaming.com/marvel-snap/cards/thanos) deck with [Prowler](https://itsguestgaming.com/marvel-snap/cards/prowler) and Rogue. The goal was another way to get Rogue's effect without having to play her at the same time.

I really wanted the turn-four imitation to work. The idea was to get Rogue's effect through another card, after the deck's early on-reveal plays, without playing Rogue herself on that turn. It didn't work.

I'd remove the failed turn-four imitation while keeping the rest of the hybrid and Rogue as backup tech. Rogue then felt like a backup to the backup: a tech card I could use when I knew I needed it, while the deck could still put up a lot of points.

That wasn't a convincing showcase for Rogue. She felt like a card occupying a tech slot that another tech card could occupy. It left me feeling that I hadn't found her proper home.

## The Misery version was still a work in progress

The last experiment was some Misery play. I had tried it before the stream and thought it was almost good. If I cut [Shadow King](https://itsguestgaming.com/marvel-snap/cards/shadow-king), [Shang-Chi](https://itsguestgaming.com/marvel-snap/cards/shang-chi), and Antipolar Magneto while keeping Rogue, I think I can start adding classic [Psylocke](https://itsguestgaming.com/marvel-snap/cards/psylocke). Another slot was still undecided.

That is a work in progress. I included it because Death Fractured Frontier was starting to emerge and the possibility of getting multiple stolen effects intrigued me. I had fun with the idea, but I wasn't presenting a completed deck or a final set of substitutions.

The experiments give me reasons to keep looking for a home. They don't change my verdict on spending for a five-cost Rogue whose effect I want a turn earlier.

## I want the card improved, and I want the wider week kept in view

Rogue arrived during a week when I thought other developments mattered more, including the patch, character mastery, and the announcements around extra cubes and limited-time game modes.

People make games and people play games. I wanted to leave the wider conversation there.
