The OTA sort of shook everything up, though not all at once. If I’m going to recommend some decks for you to play this week or this weekend, it should be reflective of what’s doing well because of the OTA. Techno-Organic Virus is where I would begin for the weekend. It gives me a stable plan while people are still figuring out the post-OTA meta right now.
Techno-Organic Virus Is a Stable Starting Point
I ran the Techno-Organic Virus list on stream Thursday and finished 21-9, a 70% win rate with more than a cube and a half per game. It is a good starting point for the weekend if you’re looking for something quite stable.
I found the list crazy smooth. Its ceiling puts more points across the board, rather than relying only on created cards.
I liked it more than Victoria Hand because the point ceiling is higher boardwide instead of being limited to created cards.
Majestic Wingbeat is the one card I remain unsure about. I still saw probably 11 out of 12 cards as perfect. That leaves this as a list I would call solid, even with the open question.
The Galactus List Needs You to Keep Priority
The Galactus list with Monstro is the fun choice. Kraglin in Galactus with Monstro was a great combination for putting a ridiculous amount of points on the board. This deck wants priority to make Galactus happen.
That matters in a meta where players are willing to throw priority.
I replaced Vision with Dragon Lord. Vision offers flexibility, and I still think the choice deserves discussion. Dragon Lord helped me stack a single lane with the Blink effect when my late big draws were missing, giving me better targeting through that lane.
Keep an eye on Fin Fang Foom. I believe it may currently be bugged. That is not proof of a confirmed bug, and I specifically treated a swap as justified and potentially recommended if you are uncertain.
Venus Aurora Spreads Power Through a Shadow King Meta
Venus Aurora is the more rounded option. I’d probably call it the current iteration of Doom 2099 even though it is not a Doom 2099 deck, because it probably has most board spread in the current meta. That spread matters in a Shadow King environment.
Venus and Aurora reward careful lane accounting. Zombie Mister Fantastic is a useful example: Zombie Mister Fantastic could be targeted twice. The more accurately I track the on-reveals, activates, and ongoings in each lane, the better I can use the build.
I chose small-package flexibility so points could grow wide. There are other versions, and changing cards for personal preference is reasonable. My version aims to keep enough power available for Shadow King while delaying that power as long as possible.
This is not a deck I think has received enough respect. If you want to play Venus and Aurora, this is the list I would reach for.
Super Soaker Surfer Is a Jubilee Silver Surfer Mission Deck
I am adding a fourth deck because players who picked up Jubilee Silver Surfer need a route through the weekend missions. Super Soaker Surfer is the mission list I’m recommending for players who picked up Jubilee Silver Surfer.
The intended plan includes playing Jubilee Silver Surfer on turn four and considering Magus or Jeff the Baby Dolphin!? on turn two according to the hand. Red Guardian gives the build some defense. Cosmo is available as another option, though I tend to avoid a lot of Cosmo in these Silver Surfer decks because I want more flexibility on the final turn.
Use Super Soaker Surfer if you decided to get Jubilee Silver Surfer for the weekend missions.
Maybe, just maybe not Jubilee Silver Surfer for now.
